October 2022 the Pirson Group performed the repair of Arcelor Mittal Dunkerque blast furnace 3; a salamander tap was performed, the shell was opened at taphole 31 and the taphole refractories were removed to create access to the furnace. The remaining burden was removed by group partner TPCO and, after assesment of the hearth, taphole 32 was partially demolished from the inside. After installation of the safey deck by Pirson Monage we continued with the installation of the taphole refractories. The design consisted of large carbon blocks connected to the existing lining by smaller bricks which were cut on site. Both tapholes were repaired within the set time frame.
